When Do Doctors Recommend Cortisone Shots?

When ‘conservative’ treatments—manipulation, pills, or therapy—do not help, doctors may recommend a cortisone shot—directly into the SI joint. 

Sometimes, this is the only way doctors can accurately diagnose SI joint inflammation.  The cortisone also treats the irritated SI joint, since cortisone helps reduce pain and inflammation.
